Traveling can complicate vaping. Packing vape juice flavors, vape hardware, and everything else vape related can be tricky. Many of the world’s governments are banning or restricting vaping, which can further complicate matters. That’s obviously a consideration every vaper planning on international travel (or airline travel within the country) should bear in mind. Hopefully, some of the following hints and tips will help
Vapes on a Plane: Nope
You are not allowed to vape on a commercial airliner. Often, you’re allowed a vape device and vape juice in your carry-on baggage (more on that later), but it’s not OK to use them. However, different airlines have different rules. Some are very particular about the kinds of batteries your vape hardware uses. As such, it makes sense to look up the rules enforced by the airline you’re going to be flying beforehand to avoid any unfortunate issues.
Prepping for a Long Trip
If you’re just into vaping for the vape flavors, this doesn’t apply as much to you. However, if you are a vaper of nicotine, keep in mind that international flights can last as long 15 hours (or more). That can be a long time to go without nicotine. Most veteran nicotine-users will be familiar with the contingency options, but just in case, consider picking up some nicotine patches or nicotine gum to avoid an… uncomfortable flight.
Packing Your Vape Hardware
Perhaps the most important thing to keep in mind about packing up vape gear is that in most cases you cannot pack any vape hardware, including vaping devices, e-cigarettes, e-cigars, and any other related battery-powered devices in your checked luggage. That means either stowing your pod, mod, pen, or other vape hardware in your carry-on luggage. You’ll want to check the specific airline’s rules about what hardware you can take in carry-on luggage, too.
Packing Your Vape Juice
Vape juice can either be taken as carry-on or checked as baggage. A lot of vapers go for at least some e-cig juice in their carry-on, so they have easier access to it after landing. Treat your vape juice like any other fluid if you are carrying it on. Carry no more than 100 mL (around three and a half ounces) in a clear container held in a clear plastic bag and clearly label it. If you are checking your vape juice, seal it up tight in a plastic baggie. It’s also not a great idea to transport full, sealed bottles as they could leak or even burst. You do not want to open your suitcase to find that your clothing all smells like Maui Sunrise vape juice, as nice as that smell may be. One good way to prevent leakage is to cover the mouth of the bottle with cling wrap and then secure the cap over it. Then place it in a leak-proof plastic baggy.
Know Your Destination’s Laws
Finally, be sure you’re familiar with the laws of the place you’re headed. Some countries allow both vaping and selling vape juice and hardware. Others allow vaping but have outlawed the sale of anything vape-related. While some places have outlawed vaping altogether. So do your homework!
